IS BEAUTIFUL MAGAZINE
Green is Beautiful
is a member benefit, published solely for our members. We are proud of
our publication which is written by the members, for the members,
providing articles on topics ranging from course construction, health
and safety, human resources, management and horticulture on the course. It is
a 40 page, full colour, 4 season publication designed to meet the needs of
all our members.
EMPLOYMENT
REFERRAL SERVICE
This service is
available to all of our members as part of their membership benefits. The
OGSA mails out or emails announcements of job opportunities as they become
available. The expense for this service is paid for by the advertiser.
This service is now available on line in our "Members Only"
section of our web site.

EDUCATION
OGSA is
committed to broadening knowledge through formal education channels and
by exchanging experiences and ideas with fellow members. One avenue of
achieving this is through the annual Ontario
Golf Course Management Conference and Trade Show
SCHOLARSHIPS
TURFGRASS EDUCATION AWARD - open to
non-members as well as members
SCHOLARSHIP POLICY STATEMENT:
The OGSA has developed this scholarship program to recognize scholastic
accomplishments and potential leadership in the field of turfgrass
management. Students who have a career goal of being employed in the
golfing industry are eligible to apply. Please see "To
Qualify" for full information.
FUNDING:
Funding ($3,115) is available to diploma or degree students upon
successful completion of their winter semester.
SELECTION:
Selection for diploma and degree students will be based on academic
accomplishments, standings and the content of the application indicating
the applicant's interest in turfgrass management.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:
Diploma and degree applications must be received by November 15th.
TO QUALIFY:
1. The applicant must
be attending a recognized university or
college in Ontario in a turfgrass study course.
2. The applicant must have completed at least one year of
post-secondary education in turfgrass management.
3. The applicant must have a minimum
average of 80%.
4. The applicant must list his/her most recent golf
course
superintendent employer and current academic advisor,
both of whom may be contacted by the Committee.
5. The applicant must submit their most recent
scholastic
transcript with marks shown in a percentage form along with
a current resume.

recent golf course superintendent employer.

SHORT COURSE AWARD - open to
non-members
An award in the amount of $1,245 will be given to the golf
course-related student who, upon completion of the program, receives the
highest overall mark in the course. This will be disbursed to the
student upon notification to the OGSA by the academic advisor of the
program. There is no need to apply for this award as it is given
automatically.
OGSA HERITAGE
AWARD (members only) is a $3,115 scholarship which was developed to recognize the
scholastic accomplishments of students who are the children or
grandchildren of all OGSA members and are studying a curriculum
unrelated to Turfgrass Management.
HUGH
KIRKPATRICK BURSARY (members only) The OGSA in conjunction with the
Kirkpatrick family has developed this bursary program to recognize the
leadership, commitment and accomplishments of Assistant Superintendent
Members of the OGSA. The funding $3,025 will be made available annually to an Assistant
Superintendent for the purpose of industry related training or
education.

GOLF COURSE
SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
The OGSA is a
chartered member of the GCSAA, which offers an abundance of information
and opportunities to their members. For information about this

GUELPH
TURFGRASS INSTITUTE
The OGSA office is
located in the GTI, the hub for turfgrass research in Ontario. Our
Association works in conjunction with the GTI so that we can provide our
members with the most up-to-date information on turfgrass research and
development. For more information about the GTI go to their web site at

TURF TALK
Located in our
"Members Only" section of the website, this on-line
discussion forum is open to all members, allowing them to post questions
concerning the the golf industry and any problems they may have.
LIBRARY
DONATION PROGRAM
In cooperation
with the McLaughlin Library at the University of Guelph, OGSA has
initiated a program in which they will provide funds for the purchase of
turf and golf related books to add to a special Turf Section in the
Library. In addition to the funds provided by our Association we
encourage our members to contribute to the program, either through book
donations or monetary donations.
The library is
reciprocating by providing library borrowing privileges to all our
members, which will afford them standard borrowing privileges at the
University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier
University and the TriUniversity Annex. In addition, the University
agrees to provide to any member of the OGSA, at the request of the OGSA, with Interlibrary Loan privileges free of charge by the
University.

"WILLIAM SANSOM" AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
The Ontario Golf Superintendents' Association shall present an award of
Distinguished Service, in the name of our first President William Sansom,
to an individual or individuals, providing such an individual is
properly nominated and subsequently accepted by the Board of Directors.
